Good gardeners know the value of mulching their gardens. Here at Centenary Landscaping Supplies we have a wide variety of barks and mulches that will satisfy your budget and the achieve look you want. As you can see from the diagram below bark and mulch have a number of important functions. These include keeping your soil cool during summer and warm in winter, while helping to prevent erosion during heavy rain periods. Barks and Mulches also keep weeds under control and importantly retain moisture... particularly if you use our famous Hydrocell Water Saving Soil Improver under the bark and mulch and blend it into the soil. We don't recommend the use of black plastic under the bark and mulch as it prevents water penetration and sours your soil hindering plant growth. We recommend a Weed Mat or even Geofabric as both these will inhibit weeds while their porosity will alow moisture and air to get into your soil.
How Much Bark and Mulch Will You Need?
Simply work out the area in square metres and multiply by 0.1 this will give you the volume in cubic metres you will require to cover the garden to a depth of 10 centimeters (4 inches) being the recommended depth or thickness for the bark and mulch to be effective. Any less you may be just wasting your time and money making the bark and mulch ineffictive and any more may also be harmful.

Chunky Pine Bark This consists of 2’’ chunks of clean tan bark, free of all the fine mulch and small pieces that often makes up 30% of normal pine bark. It looks great in the garden.
