DIY - Timber Retaining Walls - 24/07/2009We have recently been making a set of video series for the DIY'ers amongst us, the current one being on Timber Retaining Walls. In putting the videos together I've been able to learn about what methods work and make a difference to make the construction process easier, and make the finished job last. One of the main things I've learned is that the finishing of the project is what makes the biggest difference. If I don't use drainage pipe and gravel, I risk causing the wall to be unable to withstand the pressure of the land behind it. The other big thing I've learned, is measure twice before cutting anything! If it's too long I can always cut more off, but if I cut it short, I'm up for more materials, time and expense. We had a professional landscaper on site when doing the videos, Chris from Multiscapes Landscaping, to talk us through all the steps involved with making the walls. The extra tips from someone with experience were invaluable, from measuring and marking the post distances, through to placing two round logs and leveling them correctly for end posts. So, for you to see all about making your own timber retaining wall, head on over to our DIY Videos - Timber Retaining Walls and get a better feel for the job before you start.
