Treated Timber Retaining Walls

We Recommend Treated Pine over Treated Hardwood. Retaining walls made of Treated Timber give a natural look and feel to your garden. You can choose from Treated Pine Sleepers or Logs while Treated Hardwood Sleepers are still a popular choice here in Queensland because it is incorrectly thought that hard-wood is better and longer lasting. Retaining Wall made from Timber Sleepers We have a broad idea where these hardwood sleepers come from but the fact remains that this type of timber is generally restricted to private land where they have Government permission to harvest trees. As a result, the quality of the hardwood timber has diminished over the years except for a couple of our speciality cutters/suppliers. We also think, along with many in the community, that the hardwood trees should not be cut down for the purpose of making a hardwood sleeper. The wood is second or even third class. Harvested and plantation pine is environmentally friendly and superior in quality and indeed longer lasting when treated. They are even guaranteed up to 40 years from fungal and bug attack. |
Treated Pine Sleepers Treated pine sleepers will actually last longer than hardwood sleepers due to the CCA treatment process which ensures that every wood cell is impregnated with the preservative. Guaranteed against insect (including termite) and fungal attack for 40 years. Packs of 10 get additional discounts, so call to find out what we can do for you. Note that these Sleepers are only marginally more expensive than Hardwood. 2.4m x 200mm x 50 mm $22.24 each 3.0m x 200mm x 50 mm $27.40 each After some tips on how to build your wall? Please Note: CCA Treated Pine Timber used for sleepers has a more consistant finish, as well as lasting longer and being easier to handle, cut and drill. ACQ Kindy Safe Sleepers ACQ Treated Timber is preservative treated with and environmentally advanced all purpose wood preservative suitable for outdoor use for above ground and in ground contact exposures. Over the past decade, ACQ Treated Timber has been used in some of the world's most pristine environmentally sensitive areas. Freshly treated ACQ Treated Timber is green in colour, and weathers to a warm brown colour over several months. Like all timber exposed to the weather over a prolonged period of time, ACQ Treated Timber will eventually turn grey if not protected with paint or stain. The ACQ wood preservative has been approved by the Australian Pesticide and Vetinary Medicines Authority as a general use wood preservative for softwoods or hardwoods.
2.4m x 200mm x 50mm $29.90 each ACQ Treated Timber is also suitable for use in building Herb and Vegetable raised garden beds. Want to grow your own fresh produce? |
Treated Hardwood Sleepers These are the very best we can source from suppliers who find it hard to keep up with our demand for large volumes. Quite frankly these are not recommended due to environmental considerations. So yes they are still popular and in demand but we think you should be choosing the Treated Pine Sleepers. By the way, some think that because the hardwood is treated it will be as good, if not better than pine. Not so, as the treatment hardly penetrated the hardwood cells while most of the pine cells are treated and therefore will outlast hardwood. 2.1m x 200mm x 50mm 2.4m x 200mm x 50mm Please Note: CCA  Treated Hardwood Sleepers are not classed as “Building Grade” timber. As such, they usually have one good face and one good edge (not a perfect piece of wood). You can also use Timber Sleepers in other ways around the garden, for example building a raised garden bed, for garden edging or making a sandpit for the kids, add a dark stain or paint the sleepers to protect the wood from weathering and introduce some contrast in your yard.
