Sir Walter Premium Lawn Turf

You’ve probably seen Sir Walter Turf talked about on any number of TV Lifestyle programmes. We now have this hardy, shade tolerant, soft buffalo turf with all the accessories you could want so you can get the best out of your lawn, and no need to visit the turf farm. Sir Walter Premium Lawn Turf, is an Australian born and bred turf for our dry and harsh weather conditions.

It adapts to shady areas better than any other warm season soft lawn turf, and it has a natural weed resistance that will suffocate the growth of weeds when the lawn is in its normal healthy state. Sir Walter has also been developed to repair itself when damaged or abused. Therefore, any patches of discolour or poor growth will, on their own, re-establish quickly compared to other buffalo lawns. This means less time concentrating on fertilising and lawn repair, and more time enjoying your lawn.

We recommend you order ahead so that we will have it put aside for you to pick up, or simply have larger orders delivered directly to your home.

Climate: Drought tolerant. Stays green in summer & winter
Maintenance: Sir Walter was bred to be a low maintenance grass and therefore has to be hardy. No matter what the condition - frosts, scorching sun, shady patches - Sir Walter thrives in them all. It requires very little maintenance. Resistant to many insect & fungal pests, which means less spraying.

Here’s What We Recommend for You to Lay the Perfect Sir Walter Premium Lawn Turf.

 1- Sir Walter Turf
Which comes in convenient 1.2m x 0.6m slabs of turf which makes it easy to carry and lay. You’ll need to measure the area you intend to cover. Just ask for assistance in confirming the quantity you require.

2- Under Turf Media (Soil)
We have a full range of under turf soils. You can view them on the Soils page
We recommend Ultragrow Hydrocell Soil or our Commercial ­Soil Mix with the Hydrocell Soil Improver blended into it. Hydrocell is an open celled structured foam made from a water based resin that is sterile and biodegradeable. It is far superior to water crystals because it holds up to 60% of it’s volume as water and 37% as air while becoming an intergral part of the subsurface growth environment (soil) for the roots of your plants.
The turf roots actually grow into the foam that releases the stored water to the lawn as required. It will also rehydrate (take in water) after  watering by holding the water and air in each flake.
You can also expect to use only half the water you’ve used in the past while the new lawn maintains a healthy growth. As one of our customers said to a friend who had a healthy garden “ I didn’t know you had green thumbs”, to which he replied “I don’t, I’ve got Hydrocell”

4- Top Dressing Soil or Sand
Putting a quality top dressing on your lawn in Spring or Early Summer will not only help to fertilise, but also level out those lumps and bumps while assisting in keeping the roots from getting compacted. Information on our Topdressing is on the Soils Page

Blue Couch

Blue Couch Turf is Now Available by the slab for you to pick up on Friday afternoons and Saturdays!

Characteristics: Blue/green colour. Dense, medium to coarse textured blade. Pest & weed resistant. Requires minimal fertilizer. Tolerates a wide range of soils.
Climate: Thrives in heat and humidity. Sensitive to low temps. Sensitive to drought.
Maintenance: Cut between 20-50mm every 7-14 days in Spring/Summer. Requires minimal fertiliser.

Ideally suited to the sunny climate of Queensland. Thrives in full sun and is highly tolerant of heat and humidity. While it is sensitive to drought conditions, it has a rapid recovery rate. Requires regular maintenance to keep it looking good.

Sweet Smother (Durban)

Characteristics: Soft in texture It is lime green in colour in full sun but the colour darkens when Sweet Smother is grown in shade or when fertilised.

Climate: The most shade tolerant of all turf varieties sold in SEQ needs a minimum of 2 to 3 hours of direct sunlight per day or filtered sunlight for a longer period.

Maintenance: Cut between 20-50mm every 7 to 10 days, and 50-70mm in heavier shaded areas.

It will withstand average wear  suitable for normal home lawns. However, it will not handle constant heavy traffic, especially in the winter months when the lawn is growing slowly. A depth of 10 cm (and ideally 15 cm) of a free-draining soil is necessary for the roots of Sweet Smother to fully develop allowing it to perform to its optimum.

Seaisle 1

Characteristics: Ideal for homes and gardens with high salinity problems. Tolerates grey water & effluent with high contaminant levels.
Climate: Excellent winter hardiness and cold hardiness. Withstands drought, salt, acid/alkaline soils, waterlogging and shade.
Maintenance: Does not appear to have a wide variety of disease problems that tend to plague other warm season grasses.

SeaIsle 1 has good rooting in sandy soils and can clean up contaminated soils and water. It requires low fertilisation and minimal pesticides. It has excellent low light intensity tolerance, (cloudy, foggy or smog conditions).

Rileys Super Sports Couch

Characteristics: Dark green. Durable and robust. Tolerates wide range of soils.
Climate: Thrives in heat and humidity. Does not perform in shade.
Maintenance: Looks best cut low (20mm) every 7 days in Spring/Summer.

Rileys Super Sports Couch is a hard wearing, fast growing variety that is ideal for busy backyards, sporting fields or parks. The fine leaf blade provides a soft-to-the-touch texture and is ideal for large areas. Rileys Super Sports Couch is a full sun variety that is resistant to high tempceratures and performs well in high rainfall areas. This is a low maintenance turf variety which exhibits a high level of resistance to diseases and pests.

Empire Zoysia

Characteristics:Lush, soft, dark green turf with small leaf. Drought resistant. Deep root system. Low water use due to deep root system
Climate: Thrives in extreme heat and humidity. Excellent cold hardiness. Drought tolerant.
Maintenance:Cut between 25-50mm every 7 to 14 days. Requires minimal fertilizer. Easy weed control and tolerance to common herbicides.

Empire Zoysia thrives in harsh tropical climates yet exhibits excellent cold hardiness. It is uniquely suited for homeowners and commercial users in varying climatic conditions of Australia. It adapts to a wide range of soil types and requires less water than most other grasses, even in sandy loam soils.

Palmetto St Augustine (Buffalo)

Characteristics: Lush, soft, emerald green turf with wide leaf. Excellent colour retention through autumn/winter.
Climate: Thrives in full sun and shade conditions. Excellent cold hardiness and frost tolerant. Drought tolerant due to deep root system.
Maintenance: Cut between 20-50mm every 7 to 10 days, and 50-70mm in heavier shaded areas.

 Palmetto is a true eye catcher. It performs well in full sun yet thrives in shaded areas. It requires only 2-4 hours of direct sunlight. It generally holds winter colour longer than most other warm season turf varieties. Drought tolerant once established. It recovers quickly from damage by wear.

Winter Green

Characteristics: Light green colour. Soft-to-the-touch feel. Fine leaf. Withstands wear.
Climate: Thrives in heat and humidity. Tolerant of high temps. Sensitive to low temps. Does not perform in shaded areas. Grows well in high rainfall areas.
Maintenance: Cut between 15-25mm every 7 days in Spring/Summer. Requires minimal fertiliser. Requires regular watering every 3-4 days.

Wintergreen couch is an attractive turf variety. Like most couch varieties, Wintergreen is resistant to heavy use and thrives in full sun. This variety does not do well in shade areas or areas of low temperatures or frost. Exhibits rapid recovery after stress or injury. It requires minimal fertilizers and minimal maintenance.
